Arapaima

The Arapaima is one of the largest freshwater fish species in the world, originating from the Amazon region in South America. This fish is scientifically known as Arapaima gigas and is also commonly called pirarucu in Brazil. Arapaima can grow to a very large size, reaching lengths of up to 3 meters and weighing up to 200 kilograms. Its main uniqueness lies in its ability to breathe air directly, which allows it to survive in water with low oxygen levels.

Physically, the Arapaima has a long and slender body with golden and red scales on its back, making it easily recognizable. This fish is a predator that feeds on various small fish, crustaceans, and sometimes birds and small mammals found on the water's surface.
